Hi, Suzanne McClain here. Today we're going to talk about one of the biggest mistakes people make choosing a Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.

One of the mistakes I've seen is a person's prescription drugs changing tiers on their formulary.
Here is an example: I had a client come into my office. He was on a particular plan.
His drug that he was currently taking was listed as a tier two on his current formulary. So the way your tiers work. In most cases, You have a tier 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Typically, the lower the tier the cheaper the co-pay is for the client. Like I said, he was on a tier two drug.
Which cost and $8.00 when he picked it up at the pharmacy.
He received his notice from the company saying what his benefits were going to be for the next year.
What we found out was, that particular medication that he was on, the company had decided to change it from a tier two where he was paying an $8 co-pay to a tier 4 where he was no being charged a $48 co-pay.
So we realize that this is not really the best plan for his situation for the following year. This is something you definitely want to make sure. Check your current medications, make sure they're not changing the tiers on you.
Come January when you go to fill your medications you're not getting sticker shock because they have taken your Medications that were the cheap co-pays and bumped it up to a higher tier on the formulary.
I hope this helped you out a little bit.
