What is Extra Help for Prescription Drug Plans?”
Many people don’t realize that there are programs out there that will help you if you have limited income or assets and you live in one of the 50 states including the District of Columbia. If your income is lower than $17,820(2017) for an individual and $24,000 (2017) as a married couple living together, you might just qualify for what is called Extra Help. Social Security don’t consider your home and your car. What they’re concerned about is just your liquid assets like a bank account or stocks or bond. They don’t care about life insurance policies or grave plots. If your liquid assets are not more than $13,820, $27,000 (2017 figures) for a married couple you might just qualify for Social Security extra help.
They try to make it simple for you and you can speak to them on the phone. You’d be surprised that the hours that they have over their Social Security during the week they’re open 5AM eastern time to 1AM eastern time. On Saturdays and Sundays and Federal holidays they’re open as well but slightly shorter hours.
