Many people new to Medicare mistakenly assume that they can enroll in a Medigap plan without any health questions during the Fall Annual Election Period. This is false!
The Annual Election Period is for changing your Part D drug plan or your Medicare Advantage plan, if you have one. It is not a window that lets you bypass health questions on a Medigap application.
In most state, the only times that you can apply for Medigap without answering health questions is during the first 6 months a after your activate Part B or after loss of some other form of creditable coverage that qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period.
So don't enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan thinking that later on when you get sick you can just switch over to Medigap without underwriting. It doesn't work like that. Some states with exceptions are California, Oregon, Washington and Connecticut.Boomer Benefits provides free claims support for life for all of our Medigap and Medicare Advantage policyholders so that you are never alone in dealing with Medicare.
