Hand Surgeon Paul Gorman, M.D. of , explains why he opted out of medicare in this presentation from the AAPS, Thrive Not Just Survive workshop held January 18, 2012. Like a majority of physicians, Dr. Gorman could not meet his overhead with the reimbursement paid by Medicare. In order to continue to treat Medicare patients – without closing his doors – Dr. Gorman now sees these patients outside of the Medicare program – on mutually agreeable terms. Dr. Gorman also outlines how he identifies and eliminates from his practice the commercial insurance companies that don't reimburse his services fairly.
