What is primary and secondary in Medicare?
When we are talking about primary and secondary insurance we are talking about Coordination of benefits. This will apply if you are working still and you have an employer health plan. Primary is the one that pays first and versus the secondary pays second. It depends on the size of your employer. If your employer has 20 or more employees, they would generally be the primary payer in the Medicare world. A lot of times folks will delay Part which is for doctors and outpatients. They might take just Part A and then delay Part B. Watch your time frames when you leave your employer plan.
