Medicare Mini-Course Part Seven addresses the times when you can buy a Medicare supplement. The best time to buy a medicare supplement is when you are first eligible. This is known as your Medigap Open enrollment Period. This enrollment period lasts for 7 months and begins when you are enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B.

There are also times when you may be entitled to Guaranteed Issue Rights. During this time you can buy a supplement regardless of any health condition you may have. You can also buy a supplement if you qualify even if you are not entitled to Guaranteed Issue Rights or are not in your Medigap Open Enrollment Period. Doing so will require that you pass medical underwriting.
