When to enroll in Medicare: Tips from Advocate Health Advisors CEO Darwin Hale

Advocate Health Advisors CEO Darwin Hale discusses tips for those turning 65 and enrolling in Medicare. Hale discusses the importance of timing when enrolling in Medicare and consulting with a local insurance agent. Hale also addresses how Advocate Health Advisors agents can help those who are 64 or older and have been laid off during the coronavirus pandemic.
Every day, across the United States, 10,000 people become eligible for Medicare. When someone is finally entitled to Medicare, they have important decisions to make.
Hale, author of 'Need to Know: How to Arm Yourself and Survive on the Healthcare Battlefield,' offers his advice in a discussion with Karen McAllister, Advocate Health Advisors public relations specialist:

:32: Those are time-sensitive decisions. There is a window of 90 days before your 65th birthday, the month of your birth and three months following your birth. So, there is a seven-month window to enroll in Medicare. Enrollees have earned these Medicare benefits, and they are deserving of them.
I would encourage them to call a local insurance agent. Hopefully an Advocate Health Advisors agent to get advice on making those decisions. The Medicare plan you choose has a big impact on your overall health and wellness. You need to evaluate the plan's physicians, hospitals and other benefits. A lot of Medicare Advantage plans also help you keep your wellness by covering gym memberships, weight loss plans and smoking cessation programs.

1: 48: Advocate Health Advisors agents specialize in the Turning 65 community. The people turning 65 have a very unique set of decisions, and they need to be informed about Medicare, Medigap policies and Medicare Advantage (also known as Medicare Part C), where you get all of your benefits through a private company.
Our agents are experts for those who are turning 65 and enrolling in Medicare.

3:12: These are challenging times as layoffs surge during the coronavirus pandemic. If you have been laid off and COBRA is too expensive, call an Advocate Health Advisors agent in your community. One of our agents will help you with decisions about Medicare.
