Medicare For All?! Politicon 2018 Panel ft. Ana Kasparian

Join the Home of the Progressives

Healthcare is a mess. Companies profit at the expense of the sick. The process is so complicated that few can explain or rationalize it, and by the year, more of our population become senior citizens. Do we need to scrap it all and somehow start over? Provide equal Medicare for all? Or are we doomed to a tiered system where everyone gets healthcare– with a bill only the rich can afford?

  1. Lucky for Dr. Drew that he, and his family, have healthcare.
Unfortunately, according to a Harvard study over 35,000 Americans die every year because they do not have healthcare.

    • What do you propose those who can’t work do? Or those with per-existing conditions? Insurance works on the principle of spreading out the risk among as many as possible. The more people involved the cheaper for everyone. That is why medicare for all is the only answer…math.

    • That number has been challenged by experts. Also, in other nations people die due to lack of access as well. For example,up to 7000 die a year in Australia on waiting lists.

  2. Notice some of the people in the comment section aren’t addressing Ana’s points but rather just calling her name’s. It’s because Ana is right, and since they have no argument, name calling is all they got.

    • Michael H, exactly. They just flock here to be contrarian fuckheads. I guarantee they never even listen to the content of the videos they comment on. They’re incapable of letting facts penetrate their bubble of stupidity.

They’re cool with going bankrupt for medical care, just as long as it pisses off the “libtards.”

    • Does race and gender REALLY matter to you THAT much? Jesus.
In a way you’re insulting Ana, because you’re looking at her like she’s just ‘a poor little girl’ that could be oppressed by these big old bad men.

  3. Of course the taxes are higher in Germany, nobody over there expects a free lunch. College is free too. Its like some people brains are stuck on the idea that we shouldn’t have a universal health care system if they have to pay for it in taxes.
Would you rather pay the govt $60 monthly in additional taxes , or $500 A month to a private insurer with vague or limited coverage.

    • False dilemma. We can bring that price down significantly if we allow healthcare to actually compete for cost on the free market without state line limitations. Also you will notice the quality of our health care is better than countries with socialized health care. Waiting times are nowhere near as long as this other places with socialized health care. Want to take a look at what socialized health care looks like? Just look at the VA or any free clinic in your local town. Also, im curious where you are getting 60 dollars a month for free healthcare.,

    • I’d have to look it up, but I think due to the fact that we do not have state taxes here in Germany, the German taxpayer in general might even pay less taxes in % than the US one does.

    • Matthew Ray Waiting periods for selective procedures or specialist appointments within one months: The US shares the third place with the Netherlands behind Switzerland and the UK, with Germany directly behind them. For two months or more, Switzerland again beats the US and the Netherlands are also better in this category, with the UK being neck to neck with the US. And when it comes to primary care, Australia, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and the UK beat the US. So please stop this lie that socialised medicine leads to longer waiting periods because it clearly doesn’t.

  4. Most people are happy with there healthcare? Debate done. This guy can’t be taken seriously. Even people who against Medicare for all would tell you they not happy with their health plans. Cmon man…

  5. Ana, YOU HELD YOUR OWN AGAINST TWO HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS AND A WAR CRIMINAL! I am very proud of you… I wish the Iraq vet called Bill Kristol out on Iraq.

  6. I’m Bill Kristol. Policy is hard. I don’t have an opinion, because the status quo is great. Can’t we all just get a long. Trump is mean.

  7. Ana was great! I live in Canada. I pay $45 per month for universal health care. If I have a heart attack tomorrow, and spend 2 weeks in intensive care – I pay nothing. I walk out the door at the end with top notch care. I also pay an extra $40 per month for extended care. The extra $40 takes care of my dental bills, 80% of my prescription pills, and also covers 80% of any massage, Physiotherapy or other bills. What the hell is wrong with America? 3 Trillion for healthcare?? Divided by the US population equates to about $10,000 per person per year. You idiots are saying you can’t figure out how to cover that sum which is already being paid? Gongshow government…..fingers crossed that the leaders will be poor enough to not get the proper healthcare when their old white hearts fail….

    • it’s an info game. As long as our politicians can keep obscuring the info on single payer healthcare they can serve their benefactors in the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries. The majority of Americans want to adopt the system now, but the corrupt legislators are resisting as long as they can.

    • I think the problem is that all the politicians are in bed with every aspect of your healthcare. Get money out of politics – and you will reap the rewards of a true democracy….

  8. A family of 4 can expect to pay $28,000 a year for healthcare. The average salary is $60,000.

At this point the only people who don’t want medicare for all are the rich who don’t need it or the poor who don’t understand what it is.

  9. A lot of people say that Ana gets “too emotional,” but I think she did an excellent job so not sure what they mean.

I didn’t catch the name of the gent on the far right, but he was also great—calm, collected, presented facts.

“Dr. Drew” needs to stop crying. If you go into the medical field for money, then you don’t belong there anyway.

  10. This debate: two demented old curmudgeons who somehow still have medical licenses muttering about things that have nothing to do with Medicare for All, a war criminal getting booed by the crowd, and Ana addressing the question brilliantly.
