This video is specifically for people who already have either a Medicare supplement, a stand-alone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan or a Medicare Advantage. If you want to know what may be changing for 2021, what is going to remain the same and, of course, what to do about – we will have answers in this video.
I am going to talk about Medicare Part A & Part B for 2021, Medicare supplement plans, Medicare Advantage Plans and Stand-Alone Medicare Part D Prescription drug plans for 2021.
Medicare’s Annual Election Period is from October 15 through December 07, and Open Enrollment is from January 01 all the way through March 31. I am going to talk about what you can do and what you should do during these Annual periods as well.
If you are new to Medicare in your initial enrollment period or new to Medicare Part B sometime in the months ahead, this Annual Election Period is not for you. You have a different special or initial enrollment period. The Annual Election Period if for those who already have Medicare.

Let’s start with Medicare Part A & Medicare Part B, inpatient and outpatient coverage. Every year, typically early November, Medicare announces the new premiums, deductibles, and copays for the year ahead. As I make this video in October 2020 there has not yet been an official announcement for 2021 just yet.

The good news about Medicare supplement plans is that the benefits never change. Once you have a Medicare supplement plan no one can change your benefits or take it away from you. Not even an act of Congress.
For example, Medicare supplement Plan G pays all your inpatient and outpatient Medicare expenses except the annual Medicare Part B deductible. The Part B deductible can change, but the benefits of the supplement Plan G cannot.
So, there are no 2021 Medicare supplements. They are the same as 2020 or 2019, 2018 and so on. The benefits have not changed.
There should NOT be 2021 Medicare supplement prices. Let me explain: Medicare supplement plans do not operate on a calendar year basis. They operate on a contract year basis. Whatever month you started your plan is your contract anniversary. The rate increase should typically be only on a contract anniversary.

Next Medicare Advantage Plans.
There are a lot of new Medicare Advantage plans this year. Even more significant, there are a lot of 2020 Plans that are being canceled or changed significantly. You must shop your Medicare Advantage plan each year to see what has changed or if something better is now available.
In looking at plans across the country from the major carriers I am seeing a lot of new Chronic illness Special Needs plans. These are plans that specialize in specific chronic conditions. Most I have seen are for diabetics and those with cardiac health issues.
Also, there are some insurance companies whose Prescription Drug portion of the Medicare Advantage Plan is changing significantly. I mean a lot. If you don’t check your plan, you are at risk of finding out that one of your prescriptions is no longer covered.
The bottom line; do not assume you can keep your 2020 plan into 2021. These plans may have significant changes. Shop your plan and compare to the other plans available to you.
The bottom line, you must re-shop your Part D Plan between October 15 and December 07. This,
Just go to PartDShopper.com. Enter your prescriptions and location and my site will show you which of the Part D plans I recommend will be your lowest cost for 2021.
You can shop from the companies I recommend, find the best plan for your needs and your budget and enroll all in just a few minutes time.

When you enroll in a new plan Medicare will cancel your old plan. You do not have to do a thing.
If you decide you want to stay with the plan you have for next year, do nothing. It will automatically roll over.
It’s simple and quick, but very important.
After December 07 you will not be able to change again until next October 15 unless you have a Special Enrollment Period.
