“Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand intends to co-sponsor Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) Medicare-for-all bill, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the bill.

Gillibrand has been open about her support for a single-payer system at several recent town halls across New York.

The New York senator joins at least seven other senators who have recently announced their intention to co-sponsor the legislation. A source told Mic that Gillibrand has supported the legislation for some time now and intends to officially announce her support soon.

On Wednesday, Sanders plans to roll out the much-anticipated bill, alongside several co-sponsors.

Earlier on Monday, Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) both announced that they intended to co-sponsor the legislation.”

  1. Shocked! that my Washington state senators (two female Democrats) have not voiced their support yet! So I paused the video, got onto both their websites and wrote them each a message asking that they do so ASAP. It’s easy!

  2. Maximum irony here is that most of these senators would not have supported Bernies single payer bill if “democrat” Hillary had won the election. They would likely have faced pressure to fall in line and work to modify the ACA leaving the private insurers in control as this was/is HCs position.

  3. Bernie Sanders: The only candidate from the 2016 POTUS election introducing and advocating for meaningful and popular legislation aka the only leader in the race.

  4. Look, stop trying to get them on board and get them out. Because, what’s to stop them from saying yes, then back tracking for some bullshit reason after they’re re-elected? I say fcuk ’em get them out.

  5. Have you seen the agony in West Virginia and eastern Kentucky? Of course, there are many more areas of the country where people are suffering with no health care but those two come to mind. Let’s get it done – for the people, the majority of whom want this bill to become law.

  6. The general public need to be more informed . To many have no idea what or how Single Payer works & its benefits. More pressure on the media & Rep. to get the fundamentals debated & out there .

  7. They’re scared because when it was pushed to the public that Medicare For All will increase taxes by quite a bit (because why should any of that money come from what is designated for corporate subsidies, bloated military spending and corporate tax breaks?) polls shows an increase in opposition to the concept by voters to 68%. They need to educate the public…and shoot down the fear hype..but they are too busy fund raising.
