Corporate Dem: I Agree With Medicare For All, But I Won't Support It

  1. Summary: “I don’t think we have enough support, so I won’t even try. And I won’t try to get enough support either.”

“I won’t do the BARE MINIMUM OF SIGNING MY NAME ON A PIECE OF PAPER, because I want to protect the ACA.”

    • There’s an ethos problem in the country. In my county, voters rejected a two cent gas tax for better roads. This while gas is probably the lowest it’ll be in our lifetimes. There’s simply no feeling of “us” and a “greater good.”

    • Yeah but people definitely support higher taxes if it means no more premiums, deductibles, etc. Just look at the polling on Medicare-for-All. We’ve reached a tipping point bc our system is so dumb. The problem is corruption.

  2. “I agree with the notion of breathing air, but I’m too much of a lazy person to do it.”

  3. People who argue that healthcare isn’t a constitutional right, you know what else isn’t in the Constitution? Primary education. But we realized that an educated citizenry is beneficial to society as a whole. That’s why every child is entitled to an education and has to go to school. If education was like our healthcare system, most children would not be in school and half the population would be illiterate. That’s why I laugh at libertarian originalists who argue against universal healthcare but send their kids to public schools.

    • Tyler Potts lol, wow the mental gymnastics you must undergo to believe our Constitution provides a way to compel someone against their will to buy a private product. this is insane. congress doesn’t even have the right to have us pay income tax, that’s why you can’t find one law saying you must pay or face consequences, yet people are charged and convicted without the prosecution even having to produce the law you broke. ours ,even our tax structure, is supposed to be VOLUNTARY. but see what happens if you volunteer to keep your money.

    • Wouldn’t you like to know I understand. Government should subsidize hospitals. I know it doesnt change the problem, but Im not arguing for the status quo.

    • Wouldn’t you like to know I would support universal healthcare if I wasnt forced to pay. If I was “in charge“, Id have everyone be “forced“ to pay, with the option of not paying. The option not to join and instead pay for your own healthcare (mainly an option for the rich). If you wanted to leave and not pay, you would have to undergo a process that would educate you about the dangers of paying for your own healthcare. If would ever become unable to attain or pay for your own healthcare, you could join universal healthcare at a fee.

    • You consider plain constitutional language and case law mental gymnastics? Here is the text that definitively proves you wrong.

Article 1 – The Legislative Branch
Section 8 – Powers of Congress

      The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

The conservative Roberts court in independent federation of businesses v. Sebelius stated this explicitly meant healthcare was .

” Government argues that if the commerce power does not support the mandate, we should nonetheless uphold it as an exercise of Congress’s power to tax. According to the Government, even if Congress lacks the power to direct individuals to buy insurance, the only effect of the individual mandate is to raise taxes on those who do not do so, and thus the law may be upheld as a tax”.

All of of the relevant law disagrees with you , you are saying what you think the constitution says I am telling you what the complex web of constitutional case law actually says. Congress has an affirmative right to compel you to buy healthcare because congress can tax you according to article 1 section 8. Just because you think you know what the constitution says doesn’t mean you are right, tough tits that the government can force you to pay a tax without healthcare, suck it up and deal with it.

  4. Why are these politicians so indignant when we try to hold them accountable? The ACA is not helpful because premiums continue to rise and no regulatory bodies exist to monitor drug prices.

    • Austin Konrad,
You are correct sir. I have absolutely no idea where some of these morons get these stupid stories. SMFH…

    • +DarthCipient : She was the “obvious” choice to many due to plutocratic indoctrination, and an election process favouring candidates like Hillary winning primaries. Her favourability ratings were less than impressive, and her messaging was awfully out of tune with the realities millions of people in the US are suffering. The general election of 2016 was an epitome of what’s wrong with US politics, and Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are stereotypical examples of what’s wrong with the candidates US presidential elections produce. 96% of the people who went to the ballot box in November are responsible elections like these will continue to happen in the future.

    • But Jill Stein voters didn’t cost the election. It was Democrats who voted for Trump. And anyway, Hillary wasn’t entitled to anyone’s votes. That’s on her.

  5. Single payer is better financially and morally than any alternative. Her logic really didn’t make any sense.

    • I’ll put it this way, you guys exist to keep people like me from getting too extreme and potentially dangerous, people like me exist to fight for progress and keep the crazy right wing in check and the elite afraid, and the far right exists to extort and dominate us all for the gain of the elite. That’s my opinion any way lol

    • I agree, satanic satanist. There is a point at which being a moneyed elite who doesn’t fight for single payer makes you either a willful, knowing oppressor or an idiot. Most billionaires and millionaires are not idiots, certainly not the ones in business or who travel internationally or who are politically involved. Most of the millionaires and billionaires out there KNOW that single payer would save lives; they know it would save money; they would it would allow for more upward mobility.

And yet they oppose it because the current system makes it easy to exploit employees. Low-wage workers can’t leave an exploitative employer if they have kids–they won’t have insurance; their kid might get sick and not be able to get treatment. But if health insurance was removed from the job market, maybe exploited workers would quit and create better companies. Maybe they would take more economic risk. Maybe they would create more economic competition. The upper-class opposition to single payer is not about feasibility or cost…it’s about keeping the working class chained to exploitative, low-wage employers and preventing middle-class workers from becoming economic competitors. That’s the ugly reality of America.

    • sullyFL I 100% agree if we take medicine, food, and housing, all the basic survival needs, off the table, the elites power structure would probably crumble, I support not only healthcare reform, but a lot more comrade, even things that’d possibly ruin me financially, I’d still be ok though and able to provide my current modest level of living I’m sure, I want healthy food to be actually accessible to everyone in our country at very low cost or free, even though I own a rice and soybean farm and benefit from our current system quite a bit, multimillion quite a bit, although to be fair to myself I’m the generic brand so at least I’m not extorting you as bad as the other guys lol of course I worry I may feel different when I can actually use most of my money to make more, I’m not allowed to touch the vast majority of it till I’m older, till like in my early 30s, I get complete control at age 50, I sure the hell hope money doesn’t change me, I don’t ever want to forget watching my single mother go without food so I could eat, while my wealthy father was absent from my early life, I don’t ever want to forget the struggles of poverty in America that I’ve experienced or seen others experience, I saw plenty who had it much much worse than me, I don’t want to be a greedy and selfish capitalist like my father, or the elite. To be fair, my father has gotten much better since I almost died 6 years ago, he actually bought me an 800$ computer last year, well actually 2 in the past 3 years (1 was stolen so I wanted another) and he pays for my online gaming and now my phone every month, so don’t think he’s still just this horrible person haha. Anyway it’s been long overdue that we spread the wealth.

  6. Her voicemail box is full at the number Kyle provided (for her Washington office). Here’s the number for her California office: (562) 860-5050.
