  1. Who wants to go to the VA for healthcare? Tricare + Medicare = Full coverage even at civilian hospitals with no referrals.

    • shaniquaAK thx for responding, so I want to clear up a misperception about healthcare at the va, first of all healthcare from the va can be out source to your doctor’s if they accept va payments, second I am referring to 100% service connected veterans. while the negative views about the va are correct in some situations not all veterans are retired to have tricare but the veterans choice program ( the white card given to veterans more than 35 miles outside of the local va) is ran by tricare. Bottom line is veterans have choices whether they choose to go to a va medical center or a local doctor they are covered without having to pay a fee to Medicare part b.

    • I never thought that after we got out of the service our healthcare would be that complicated, and have so many different choices. This is a good blog that you guys are running and responding to. These of been really great responses and thought-provoking comments. I’m under 65 years old but eligible For a small SSDI stipend I’m qualified for. But they’ve been telling me if I’m going to be getting SSDI, And if I want to keep my tri-care benefits that I’ve had for so many years active and retired, then I must “must” pay a monthly premium to Medicare in order to keep my tri-care prime benefits. I’m in Colorado and I like both my VA doc through my get my dental care for free, and my tri-care doc through whom I get most of my care (yes I pay $263 a year a one time fee but everything else is paid for because all of my services kind of like the V A I get a free walk out the pharmacy because it’s on base, or at one of the specialty clinics inside the 2 local military hospitals.

**** So Am I right to understand, At my 100% priority 1 status, that if I can pre–coordinate my care with my existing Tricare doc, and he agrees to take me as a VA “choice” patient, I could essentially continue to get the same level of care and prescriptions without having to pay double in order to appease the Medicare people?. You know they like to threaten that if you don’t enroll “on time” you’ll be
      Penalized 10% every year.

You all are great. Ideas, please?

    • Tuile Hansen What happened???

I would think either all VA or you do TriCare + 134/monthly for Med Part B. But, I didn’t know for sure if you had to pay Medicare to keep TriCare.

You of course do both VA & TriCare – just not sure of needing to pay the Part B?
But, TriCare has deductables I do know that.

  2. I am 100% and went too the ER. and also have a choice card. The VA charged me over $ 3000.00 for that visit. And I had too pay it???
